Stacey (Tiger) LaCompte, an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and a descendant of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, serves as the executive director of the North Dakota Native Tourism Alliance and Native Cultural Tours, where she leads “Building Back Better and Stronger” and “Telling Our Story with Our Own Voices,” a vision centered on strengthening communities through sustainable economic development in tourism. She also serves as a board member of the South Dakota Native Tourism Alliance. Previously, LaCompte served as executive director and project manager for the North Dakota Indian Business Alliance; executive director of the Wakpa Sica Reconciliation Place/Historical Society (Oceti Sakowin – Seven Council Fires); acting director of the He Sapa Repatriations Alliance; project coordinator for the Great Plains Economic and Commerce Association; and co-founder of the South Dakota Indian Business Alliance, among other roles. She was selected by the Bush Foundation as a member of the first cohort of Native Nation Rebuilders in 2010 and later participated in Cohort 3 of the Change Network. LaCompte has embraced her training and education for the betterment of the Oyate, guided by mentors and elders who encouraged her to walk her path with purpose. They taught her that “the path of life comes to you — embrace it and work for your people.” She is married to Brian LaCompte and is the proud mother of four sons and one daughter, and the grandmother of eight grandsons and one granddaughter.
